The farm

Three generations on the same terraces

Quinta das Encostas is twelve hectares of granite terraces, 450 metres up and facing the Dão valley. The family has worked this land since 1968.

We make a little of everything, and we make all of it here: we pick the olives onto nets, harvest the grapes by hand, move the hives with the flowers and cook the jams in the farmhouse kitchen.

What we don't sell at the farm gate goes to you in a cardboard box we pack ourselves.

The farm calendar

What's in season

Every product has its month. When it's gone, it's back next year.

Freshly picked red grapes, ready for the press Wooden beehives between a sunflower field and a lavender field
  1. Jan–Feb

    Pruning

We prune the olive trees and the vines; the bees rest.

  2. Mar–May

    Spring at the hives

The hives move down to the wild lavender in flower. In March we bottle the Reserva.

  3. Jun

    Lavender honey

The first honey of the year: pale and floral.

  4. Jul–Aug

    Herbs in the sun

We pick lemon verbena and thyme in the morning and dry them in the shade.

  5. Sep–Oct

    Grapes, heather and jams

We harvest the grapes by hand, take the heather honey and cook jams with the farm's fruit.

  6. Nov–Dec

    New olive oil Now

We pick the olives onto nets and take them to the mill the same day.

Questions we get asked

Visit the shop
Where do you deliver?

Anywhere in mainland Portugal, by courier, in 2–3 working days after payment. For the Azores and Madeira, write to encomendas@quintadasencostas.example before ordering.

Do the bottles travel well?

They do. Every bottle goes in a corrugated cardboard divider, wrapped in kraft paper. If anything arrives broken, send us a photo within 48 hours and we'll send another.

Can I get an invoice with my tax number?

Yes. Add your NIF at checkout and the invoice is e-mailed on the day we ship.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Write your message at checkout: it goes in a handwritten card, and we leave the invoice and prices out of the box.

How should I store the honey and jams?

Honey stays at room temperature and sets over time, which is natural: just warm the jar in a bain-marie. Once opened, jams go in the fridge.
