Payment integrations

PayPal integration for online stores and bookings

We integrate PayPal Checkout and, where PayPal offers it, Pay Later into online stores, bookings and registrations. It mainly helps businesses selling to customers abroad, or to people who would rather pay with their PayPal account than type in a card. Payment confirms the order automatically and sits in the same checkout as MB WAY, Multibanco and cards.

Why PayPal still matters

According to Wmtips, PayPal appears on 57% of websites that use a payment service. For many shoppers, especially outside Portugal, the PayPal button is the quickest route: they log in with an account they already trust and never type a card into a site they have just found.

Pay Later lets customers spread the cost, where PayPal offers it in their country. The business receives the purchase amount, and PayPal deals with the instalments.

Alongside the other methods

PayPal should rarely be the only option. In an online store for the Portuguese market, customers also expect MB WAY, Multibanco and cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. We put the PayPal buttons in the same checkout, with the same order summary, so the method a customer picks doesn't change the experience.

What happens behind the scenes

When the customer pays, PayPal notifies the website, the order moves to paid and the customer gets a confirmation. If money has to go back, the refund is issued from the order, in full or in part, and both sides keep the record. Nobody on the team has to log in to PayPal to see what has been paid.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PayPal Business account?

Yes. The account is in the business's name and receives payments directly. We help you set it up and connect the website to it, without ever having access to the money.

Do customers need a PayPal account?

Not always. In many countries PayPal lets people pay by card without signing up, inside the PayPal window. Those who already have an account log in and pay in a few taps, without typing addresses or card numbers.

What are PayPal's fees?

PayPal's fees apply, and they depend on the account type and the customer's country. We explain the ones that apply to you in the proposal. Our own work is on request, quoted for each project. Request a quote

PayPal or Stripe?

You don't have to pick just one. Many stores use Stripe or a Portuguese provider for cards, MB WAY and Multibanco, then add PayPal for those who prefer it. We recommend PayPal when customers ask for it or you sell outside Portugal.
